Another brain pickings: How Steinbeck Used the Diary as a Tool of Discipline, a Hedge Against Self-Doubt, and a Pacemaker for the Heartbeat of Creative Work | Brain Pickings

Here is an analysis of how productive keeping a journal or some type of log of your days, thoughts, or progress can be over the long run as it helps you see a birds eye view of your mind. I have done this for years and it’s interesting to look back once in a while and take a peak at what was once bothering you. Our minds are consumed daily by our concerns. Sometimes a good brain dump is needed to unload the stress.

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee by Jerry Seinfeld

Since a young age I’ve loved listening to comedians not just in their acts but talking about life. They’re individuals who have made a life off of continuous observations of people and places around them and tend to have a deep insight on the nuances of the world. Each of these interviews are about 15-25 minutes long and highly entertaining as Jerry Seinfeld condenses a day spent with comedic entertainers into the pivotal moments they share together.

Especially good episodes are
Alec Baldwin and his take on laziness.
Howard Stern (a personal favorite)
Louis C. K. Talks parenting
Trevor Noah and his first view of comedy between races
AND
Sarah silvermen speaking of a life being raised without a filter.

How Each State Is Trying to Win Hollywood’s Business: A Guide to the Latest Production Incentives – Hollywood Reporter

This particular article is one in a series of many stories about how certain states where Hollywood loved to film in the past,  now don’t offer the same tax breaks they once did. It’s often cheaper to film a movie in places like Louisiana and pay to have everyone’s own hotel or homes in those states for months of shooting compared to the cost of shooting in Los Angeles or NYC. It’s been a growing issue and it matters because it shows how your states,  especially those in poor economic States, could be making money but instead are choosing to charge high rates. Sounds like Hollywood nonsense but the people you elect have power to change these things but they’re not considered pressing issues or solutions for debt issues.

Even if you do not read the book or practice meditation,  take a look at this article as it stresses the importance of changing your outlook on the world to make for a better inward experience.

If this strikes your interest then take a look at an app on your smartphone called *CALM* which is a great beginners guide to instant meditation. I was introduced to this by listening to an interview Tim Ferris recently did with the founder of WordPress. It’s completely free with advanced pay options available. The Book to Restart your reading routine: Scar Tissue

Whether you enjoy the music or not you cannot help but to be intrigued by this man’s life,  I suggest this to anyone that loves a good true story. This gives you a chance to get inside the mind of a man who has been through more than most people you know. A mild preview: He was babysat by Cher as a child where he saw her naked, Did LSD in elementary school, broke his back, and so so much more.
